London, 16 January

Display of stage props and costumes at the V&A - beyond Wagner's wildest imaginings!

Topless dancer's head-dress (Hamlet, believe it or not!  The full costume is in the picture at the back)

Dame Edna's Sydney Opera House hat for Ascot.  It's difficult to comprehend the actual size but it must have been at least 75cm from stern to aft.  Note the velvet shark!

A view of the internal structure of the V&A, hidden behind a false ceiling installed soon after WWII
The main purpose of our trip was to go to a concert at the Royal Festival Hall in the evening. The tree was a special feature brought on for Beethoven's 6th Symphony, the 'Pastoral'.  Photography wasn't allowed during the concert so I can't show you any pictures of Steven Hough's brilliant performance of Liszt's 1st piano concerto or of the two encores by the Hungarian Festival Orchestra but it was one of the best concerts we've been to.
