Hallow-e'en

My second-best pumpkin weighed in at 5kg.  The best one was 19kg but throughly beaten by the Brighton team!

Sorry, only one witch made it to Cambridge.  The other two got delayed in Scotland.

Meet Elizabeth Bennett

A knitted dolly - great fun to make!

Audley End

On one of the few days of summer, Ben and I went to Audley End.  We went by bus from Cambridge to Saffron Walden -  it takes an hour, winding through several very attractive villages and countryside - from where we walked to Audley End.  No photography allowed in the house unfortunately.

A magnificent display of potted plants in one of the greenhouses in the kitchen garden.

A real radiator - in the coach house of all places!

Roman bread

We went to the Pompeii exhibition at the British Museum.  Lots of fascinating things including some carbonised Roman loaves.  No photography allowed so when I got home I made my own - not too carbonised though!

Easter

Too cold for gardening so I resorted to baking on Friday...

and then knitting, using up some oddments left over from other projects.
Maybe next weekend it will be gardening as planned.  There's a limit on how many pairs of gloves anyone needs!

Nowhere to hide!

He wasn't impressed!

January 2013

Snow outside but the narcissi given to me by Rosemary and Chris were in full flower indoors

The bamboo are taking over.  I shall have to do some serious thinning in the spring!

London, 10 December 2012

Ben and I visited the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace to see the exhibition of Dutch paintings.  It was just before Christmas so the royal decorations were up; spot the crowns!

The Victoria Monument, against a rare blue sky!
