Lunchtime in Saumur

The hotel is on an island but the river on the other side was almost dry as a result of a recent drought

France, September 2017

On Saturday we visited the Chateau in Pompadour

Gerald and Jane taking shelter from the rain in the old coach house.  Richard is comparing this one unfavourably with the Tesla...

Still sheltering from the rain, in the old stables.  I suspect the horses were better housed than most of the people.

Horse skull

The Chateau's Orangerie is now a stable for horses from the French National Stud

The Orangerie

Sunday morning view of the race track near the Chateau

By Monday the weather had improved and the horses were out for a gallop

From Pompadour we went up to Saumur on the Loire.  View across the river from our hotel room on Monday evening

Le Pont Vieux

Inside the Chateau at Saumur.  This part of the building houses a small museum of china and tapestries

View from the battlements.  Our hotel was the white building to the right of the bridge on the far side of the river

Restoration and reconstruction

Les Parapluies de Saumur

These were the only photos I took (on my mobile).  Richard took some better ones and I will post those as soon as we can work out how to download them!
